Plumber Invoice Templates: UK, Australia, and UAE Compared

Country-by-country plumber invoice comparison: VAT, GST, and CIS differences for plumbing businesses in UK, Australia, and UAE.

Why plumber invoices differ by country

Plumbing is one of the few trades where every country has its own specific invoice requirements driven by the local tax regime and trade certification rules. A UK plumber's VAT-registered invoice looks nothing like an Australian plumber's Tax Invoice or a UAE plumber's VAT invoice with TRN.

Below is a practical comparison of the three highest-traffic plumbing markets on makinginvoice.com — UK, Australia, and UAE — plus a note on US differences.

United Kingdom: VAT + CIS

UK plumbers need to handle two regimes. First, VAT (20% standard rate, registration threshold £90,000 in 2024-2026). Most sole-trader plumbers stay below the threshold; commercial-only plumbers usually register. Second, the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) if you subcontract — contractors deduct 20% (or 30% if you're unregistered with CIS) and pay it directly to HMRC. Your invoice still shows the full gross amount; the CIS deduction is paid separately by the contractor.

UK invoice fields: business address, customer address, completion date, itemised parts (with markup shown), labour hours at your rate, VAT number if registered, sort code and account number for payment.

Australia: ABN + GST + Tax Invoice

Australian plumbers must display their 11-digit ABN on every invoice to avoid the 47% No-ABN withholding tax. If GST-registered (mandatory above $75,000 turnover), you must charge 10% GST and use the legal term 'Tax Invoice' (not just 'Invoice').

Australian invoice fields: ABN, the words 'Tax Invoice' prominently, BSB and account number for direct deposit, itemised parts and labour, GST per line.

UAE: VAT + TRN + AED

UAE plumbers follow the same VAT rules as other UAE freelancers. The threshold is AED 375,000 for mandatory registration; voluntary registration is common for B2B contractors. Once registered, your 15-digit TRN appears on every taxable invoice, the currency is locked to AED, and the standard VAT rate is 5%.

UAE invoice fields: full legal entity name, TRN, recipient's TRN (if B2B), sequential invoice number, AED currency, DD/MM/YYYY date format, itemised services.
